About Us.

Chris Haines

Chris is a lifelong resident of Sedgwick County, Kansas, growing up in Wichita, Valley Center, and Park City. His Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey began in 2006–2007 at Ultimate Fitness Center, where he quickly developed a passion for training, competing, and building community through martial arts. During these early years, he competed in both MMA and BJJ, laying the foundation for what would become a long and influential career in Kansas martial arts. In 2007, Chris co‑founded BeatDownBoys LLC (BDB LLC), followed by BDB Training Center LLC in 2010. Operating as Wichita Jiu Jitsu Club, the academy grew into one of the top Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu schools in Kansas. Under Chris’s leadership, it evolved into a respected affiliation of teams dedicated to improving lives through martial arts, self‑defense training, and community engagement. In 2015, Chris expanded his mission by opening Newton Jiu Jitsu, which continues to thrive with a strong, dedicated team of students and instructors. In 2014, Chris’s wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. After her remission in 2016, the two traveled to San Diego to train at the world‑renowned University of Jiu Jitsu, led by the legendary Ribeiro brothers, Saulo and Xande. During this period of growth and renewal, Chris earned his brown belt in 2016. In 2020, both Chris and his wife received their black belts from Rafael Lovato Jr., one of the most accomplished American Jiu-Jitsu practitioners in history. That same year—and again in 2021—Wichita Jiu Jitsu Club was honored as the Lovato Jiu Jitsu Association Academy of the Year, recognizing the academy’s excellence in instruction, culture, and community impact. In 2022, Chris helped establish Kingman Martial Arts, where he continues to serve as the head black belt for a dedicated and growing group of practitioners. After relocating to Butler County, Chris and his family opened Andover Jiu Jitsu in 2024. Today, the academy proudly serves the greater Wichita area and surrounding communities, including Andover, Augusta, El Dorado, Benton, Towanda, Rose Hill, and Douglass. With a focus on high‑quality Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction, self‑defense training, and family‑friendly classes, Chris is committed to building another strong legacy right here in the Butler County community. Andover Jiu-Jitsu represents the culmination of nearly two decades of teaching, competing, coaching, and community building. Our mission is simple: to help students of all ages grow in confidence, discipline, and skill through the life‑changing art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
